Wobenzym is an enzyme tablet sold by the German company Mucos Pharma, containing plant-based enzymes bromelain and papain, allegedly to support a healthy immune system. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Some possible side effects have been reported in medical literature.

О побочках:
[Acute circulatory shock following administration of the non-regular enzyme preparation Wobe-Mugos] Ned Tijdschr Geneeskd. 1991; 135(49):2341-4 (ISSN: 0028-2162) de Smet PA; Pegt GW; Meyboom RH Koninklijke Nederlandse Maatschappij ter bevordering der Pharmacie, Geneesmiddel Informatie Centrum, Gravenhage. A 54-year-old female patient was treated by a homoeopathic physician with non-orthodox enzyme therapy because of complaints pointing to multiple sclerosis. The therapy consisted of courses of German enzyme preparations (Wobe-Mugos injections, Wobenzym tablets and Wobe-Mugos suppositories), each of which lasted three weeks. During the third course the patient developed a circulatory shock immediately following an injection. She recovered successfully in hospital. On inquiry it became evident that symptoms of tightness, light-headedness and dry mouth had already occurred after a previous injection. In connection with this case a table is presented which reviews the alternative therapies that have been associated with anaphylactic or anaphylactoid reactions. --- [Probable coumarin poisoning upon ingestion of an anti-inflammatory agent] Rev Invest Clin. 1995; 47(4):311-3 (ISSN: 0034-8376) Pérez-Jáuregui J; Escate-Cavero A; Vega-Galina J; Ruiz-Argüelles GJ; Macip-Nieto G Laboratorios Clínicos de Puebla, México. Warfarin overdose leads to hypoprothrombinemia and bleeding diathesis. We report here the case of a 47 year old woman who ingested an overdose of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, sold in Mexico under the name of Wobenzym (R), and containing, according to the manufacturer: pancreatin, bromelin, papain, lipase, amylase, trypsin, alpha chymotrypsin and rutin. She developed skin, urinary and gastrointestinal bleeding and was found to be apparently under the effect of a coumadin overdose, i.e. prolonged prothrombin time, prolonged activated thromboplastin time, and low functional and antigenic levels of prothrombin. A platelet count, and the thrombin, reptilase and bleeding times were normal. All laboratory and clinical abnormalities reverted to normal by using fresh frozen plasma and parenteral vitamin K. In addition, we were able to show that the commercial preparation could prolong the prothrombin time in rabbits and, by high-performance liquid chromatography, a pike consonant with purified coumadin was found in the drug. It is concluded that this drug is probably contaminated by coumadin, and that physicians must be aware of its potential side effects.
